Xinwu District: The Largest Barn of Taoyuan

Xinwu is an urban area by the sea, located in the southwest of Taoyuan City, with a population of more than 49,000 people, 90% of whom are Hakka. The spirit of hardworking and thrifty has been preserved over the years, and the traditional Hakka culture remains intact. The great Hakka tradition has been carried forward that most of residents are engaged in farming or fishing. Therefore, the area has truly become a land of fish and rice in the green fields.

In addition, Xinwu, which is located by the sea, is also making great efforts to create a golden coast and develop leisure fishery tourism business. Yongan Fishing Port has rich marine resources and beautiful natural ecological scenery, and the scenery is spectacular. In the southwest of Yongan Fishing Port, the boulevard extending south to Fuxing Temple is the famous green corridor, which stretches for four kilometers and is composed of a green boulevard and a coastal road.

If you want to reminisce about the past, you must visit Fan Jiang Ancient House. It was built in the fifth year of the Xianfeng era, and only the front hall was built at that time. People in the area called it “the New House,” which is the origin of the name of the “Xinwu (New House)” district. In addition, Changxiang Temple and Tianhou Temple are also religious sites that must be visited for reminiscing about the past.

Xinwu is easily reachable by National Highway No. 1, No. 3 and No. 66 east-west expressway, or by the coastal highway, all of which are easily accessible to the coziest Hakka town in the country. The recently completed widening of Road No. 115 in Taoyuan has also given a new look to the traffic in Xinwu.
