Guishan District: The Nation's Door

Guishan was originally a settlement of the Ketagalan people of the Pepo and was originally named Guilunshe. It is surrounded by mountain chains and dense  forests, and it was the hunting grounds for the Pepo. After it began to be developed in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the indigenous people were sinicized gradually. They grew crops together and contributed to the local community. In 1950 it was named Guishan Township because the hill in front of the Guanyin Temple looks like a tortoise. On December 25, 2014, Guishan Township was renamed as Guishan District of Taoyuan City.

Guishan is located in the northeast of Taoyuan City and occupies an area of 72.02 km². Most of the area in the district consists of hills and plain.

Guishan is being driven by the Greater Taipei Metropolitan Area and Taoyuan Metropolitan Area to become the most important industrial city in northern Taiwan with its firm industrial foundation, the hub connecting these two metropolitan areas.
