Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-Cheng today (September 18) visited Zhongli District to attend the “2023 Taoyuan City Level-3 Baseball International Tournament Outstanding Performance Recognition Event.” Mayor Chang stated that he had recently presented the teams with their flags at the City Hall and wished the players success in the upcoming matches. True to expectations, players from Guishan Elementary School, Hsin Ming Junior High School, and Ping Jen Senior High School have all performed admirably in this year’s (2023) international competitions. Specifically, they won the third place in the LLB Little League World Series, champions in the LLB Senior League World Series, and the second place in the U18 Baseball World Cup. The performances of the players has also become the pride of Taiwan.

Mayor Chang pointed out that the juvenile baseball team from Guishan Elementary School earned the right to represent the Asia-Pacific region in this year’s “2023 LLB Little League World Series.” The team traveled to the United States for the competition and won the third place. Although they fell short of clinching the world championship, the outstanding performance of the Guishan Elementary School juvenile baseball team has been incredibly impressive. Additionally, Hsin Ming Junior High School participated in the “2023 LLB Senior League World Series” and emerged as the world champions, bringing glory to the nation.

Mayor Chang also noted that Taoyuan can be considered a cradle for baseball talent in Taiwan. In the recently concluded “2023 U18 Baseball World Cup,” more than half of the players on the Chinese Taipei team were from Taoyuan, with the majority coming from Ping Jen Senior High School, which had the right to form the team. For this reason, he made a special trip to the Tianmu Baseball Stadium in Taipei to watch the games and cheer for the players. Mayor Chang said that although Taiwan’s young players fought valiantly through the tournament and narrowly lost 1-2 to the Japanese team in the final match, clinching the runner-up position, they are champions in his heart.

Mayor Chang stated that players from Taoyuan have shown impressive results in various major international competitions this year, successfully capturing international attention. Foreign professional baseball leagues have also taken notice of Taiwan’s baseball prowess. Looking forward, he hopes that the players will continue their hard work. The Department of Education will also continue to provide support to schools and baseball clubs, actively promoting the sport in the hopes of making Taoyuan a globally recognized city for baseball.
