Why does Dengue fever spread by mosquitoes?

  • Release Unit:Department of Public Health

Between one day prior to and 5 days after the onset of Dengue (this period is called Viremia), infected humans serve as the virus source. The uninfected mosquitoes become infected when they bite a person with dengue virus. After virus incubation for 8–12 days, the infected mosquitoes are capable of transmitting the virus to other people.
