Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-Cheng went to Zhongli District on March 30 to attend the “TPCA Member Assembly and PCB Industry Low-Carbon Transformation Conference”. Mayor Chang stated that Taiwan’s PCB (printed circuit board) industry was born in Taoyuan in the early 1970s and has been widely used in computers, AI-driven cars, etc. PCBs can be said to be everywhere. For Taoyuan, Taiwan, and even the international electronics industry, the importance is obvious. In recent years, Taoyuan’s PCB industry has invested part of its international market revenues in energy-saving and carbon-reducing equipment, and has independently proposed a low-carbon transformation strategy. This not only fulfils the company's social responsibility, but also helps Taoyuan move smoothly towards its goal of “net-zero emissions by 2050”.
Mayor Chang also said that net-zero carbon emissions is a global trend, but it is very difficult and challenging for many companies. In the future, the city government will provide guidance to Taoyuan’s industries, hoping that they will all begin to accept the concept of net-zero. If many key industries can achieve low-carbon transformation together, Taoyuan’s industries can move towards the goal of net-zero emissions in 2050, which is just around the corner.
Mayor Chang mentioned that with the booming development of emerging applications such as AR/VR, 5G, IoT and new energy vehicles, various types of terminal electronic products will move towards high efficiency, intelligence and interconnected development in the foreseeable future. Therefore, the PCB industry can look forward to a bright future. The city government will also establish a PCB industrial zone in Taoyuan, which is currently being planned and opinions are being sought from all walks of life, in the hope that it can be finalized and implemented as soon as possible. In the future, the industrial zone will not only establish centralized sewage treatment and other public facilities, but also introduce new technologies such as “carbon neutrality”, “carbon capture”, “solid carbon cycle”, “negative carbon reuse”, and build common energy-saving and carbon-reducing facilities, so that the industrial park not only meets scientific standards, but also serves as the beginning of the “Net-Zero Carbon Emission Science Park”.
Mayor Chang also said that it is the wish of all industry stakeholders and the greatest responsibility of the city government to enable the PCB industry in Taoyuan to achieve net-zero emissions, grow and prosper, and gain recognition at home and abroad. He also expects that the PCB industry can work with the city government to become another “protector of the nation” in Taiwan.
