Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-Cheng received three awards on behalf of the city during the municipal administration meeting on the morning of March 4, recognizing Taoyuan’s outstanding achievements at the 2025 Green Apple Environment Awards, presented by the UK-based environmental organization The Green Organisation. Mayor Chang noted that the Green Apple Environment Awards are among the world’s most influential environmental competitions. Taoyuan’s achievement in securing Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards in a single year represents a remarkable milestone. The recognition not only affirms the city government’s continued efforts in advancing sustainable governance but also highlights Taoyuan’s growing environmental leadership on the global stage.

Mayor Chang further emphasized that the Department of Environmental Protection has actively introduced innovative approaches to integrate sustainability into urban governance and everyday civic life. These initiatives have enabled Taoyuan to remain at the forefront of environmental protection and sustainable development. Looking ahead, the city government will continue to support environmental governance initiatives and aims to showcase Taoyuan’s progress toward becoming a “Net Zero City” on more international platforms.

The three award-winning initiatives reflect Taoyuan’s comprehensive approach to environmental solutions across multiple sectors. The “AI Environmental Pollution Recognition System”, which received the Gold Award, integrates image recognition technology with sensor-based big data to enable real-time detection and early warning of pollution incidents, significantly strengthening environmental enforcement capabilities. The “Low-Carbon Event Registration and Review Mechanism” earned the Silver Award for pioneering a quantitative carbon-reduction management framework for events, guiding large-scale city activities toward net-zero goals. Meanwhile, the “Longtan Large Tourist Pond Water Quality Improvement and Aquatic Environment Enhancement Project” received the Bronze Award for successfully transforming the water environment through nature-based engineering methods and ecological restoration technologies.
