On the morning of May 7, Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-Cheng presided over the municipal meeting. During the session, the Department of Transportation formally reported that Taoyuan’s “Integrated Real time AI Traffic Signal Control Revolution” had been selected as one of the 2025 Smart 20 Awards winners, presented by the Smart Cities Connect, a U.S.-based organization. Mayor Chang noted that the project was chosen from over a hundred submissions worldwide, making Taoyuan one of 20 cities recognized for outstanding smart city initiatives. This honor further demonstrates the city’s growing global reputation in smart transportation.
Mayor Chang highlighted that the AI-based signal control system has already been implemented at 91 intersections across Zhongli, Neili, and the Dazhu Interchange area. Through real-time adjustments, the system effectively eases traffic congestion. The city government plans to expand its application to additional intersections across Taoyuan, further improving traffic flow and realizing the vision of a smarter city.
