Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-Cheng led a delegation to visit Belize, one of Taiwan(R.O.C)’s diplomatic allies. On the morning of September 13 (local time), he met with Belize Prime Minister Johnny Briceño over a brunch meeting to discuss sustainability and future cooperation between the two sides. This visit is particularly significant, as Taoyuan City and Belize's Orange Walk established a sister city relationship in this May, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan(R.O.C) and Belize.
Mayor Chang expressed that after this visit, he has gained a deeper understanding of Belize and will make greater efforts to promote collaboration between Taiwan(R.O.C) and Belize, as well as between Taoyuan and its sister city, Orange Walk. He emphasized that Taoyuan, known for its diverse population, is an ideal partner for Orange Walk.
Mayor Chang was deeply impressed by Belize’s commitment to environmental protection and its beautiful landscapes, noting that the Belizean people’s awareness of sustainable development is something Taiwan can learn from.
During the talks, the two leaders discussed issues such as climate change and agricultural development. Prime Minister Briceño highlighted Belize’s efforts in environmental conservation and its desire to learn from Taiwan’s technological expertise to help farmers address natural disasters and improve agricultural processing.
Mayor Chang also noted the friendliness and hospitality of the Belizean people and reaffirmed the strong bond between the two governments. He pledged that Taiwan would continue to assist Belize and Orange Walk through its technological strengths. He also extended an invitation for the Prime Minister to visit Taoyuan and expressed his hopes to visit Belize again in the future to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.
